What is included in the package price?
All packages include surf sessions, lessons and video theory. Breakfast, dinner, yoga, equipment/board hire, transport and amenities are all included. See our packages list for further details here
Where is SAFA located?

Is SAFA suitable for complete beginners?
With an array of experienced and certified coaches, we tailor the training, theory and lessons for whatever skill level you’re at. We take surfers who have never stepped foot on a board to those looking to compete.
How big are our group sizes per instructor?
We keep a maximum 5:1 ratio however, usually ends up closer to 3:1
Are dorm rooms mixed or gender seperated?
We have 2x 9 bed rooms seperated into male and female dorms
Is the camp suitable for solo travellers or larger groups?
With family dinners and breakfast, group surfing and classes, there is a real community feel at camp. Wether you’re solo or in a group, you’re sure to feel a welcomed part of the SAFA family

When is the best time to surf in Arugam Bay?
Surf season runs from April to October, hitting peak waves from June to August
What surf spots will I hit during my stay?
There are over 8 diffirent local spots we know. The main three with the most consistent swell is Peanut Farm, Elephant Rock and Main point. Each day we look at the forecast and decide where the optimal waves are. Click here to learn more about each spot
How long do I need as a beginner
Depending on your goal we usually recommend a week to go from no experience to consistently standing up on waves. This timeframe vary’s slightly from person to person
Do I need my own surfboard or equipment?
We have everything from a rashie to board sorted for you, just bring good energy and a willingness to learn. If you have your own board or equipment, please feel free to bring
What skill levels are accepted?
Fawas has been surfing in this area over many decades. Therefore, we have the expertise to tailor the experience for beginners to more advanced surfers
What if there's no waves?
During the season there is always consistent swell somewhere, with our local expertise we always find it. We may take rest days depending on fatigue levels in which optional extra curricular activities are organised. See more here

How do I get to Arugam Bay from Colombo?

Is airport transport available?
Yes, please include private transport when booking your package and setup pick up location at the airport
What should I bring?
As long as you have swimmers, a good attitude and a willingness to learn, you won’t need anything else. We take the stress of your shoulders by providing everything you need to enjoy the waves. There is also a range of shops in town if you need extra sunscreen, swimwear or anything else
